'A St Mary Mi Come From' has become more than a musical showcase.

The staging of this benevolent affair is Capleton's manifestation of the principles of Kwanzaa which is a celebration of family, community and culture. This year's milestone event will take place on Friday, August 5, at the Gray's Inn Sports Complex, in Annotto Bay, St Mary.

One of the seven principles of Kwanzaa is Ujima (collective work and responsibility) which is to build and maintain the community and make our sister's and brother's problems our problems and to solve them together.

The colourful entertainer dubbed King Shango has been demonstrating the above virtue with his decade-old vision 'A St Mary Mi Come From'. Past beneficiaries of the proceeds from this popular entertainment package include schools such as St Mary Primary, Buff Bay Primary, Port Maria Primary, Oberlin, Islington and Haile Selassie high hchools to name a few. Among the hospitals which have been beneficiaries are those in Port Maria, Annotto Bay and St Ann's Bay.

Proceeds from this year's staging will go towards the purchasing of a solar water heater for theSt Mary Infirmary, the building of a library for Beecham Hill Primary and Infant schools and providing a cafeteria for the Half-Way- Tree Primary School.

"For Capleton, music has always been a mission, not a competition. Therefore, it is only appropriate that our tenth anniversary, we have chosen to celebrate unity. When Capleton went to Zimbabwe they were celebrating Kwanzaa and unity was the first thing that they mentioned. We went there on Unity Day. So this year, we said the tenth year, we suppose to be a unity force to use to bring back the music, the way it should be," explained Claudette Kemp, personal manager.

"A St Mary Mi Come From is also a celebration of life," she added. "Living and giving each year, Capleton is happy to see his dreams realised. And (with) the numerous institutions in St Mary which benefit from the staging of this event; the artiste (Capleton) is not just talking the talk he is walking the walk."

A host of artistes have been booked for the anniversary celebration. They include Beenie Man, Rodney Price (Bounty Killer), Jah Cure, Sizzla, Barrington Levy, Duane Stephenson, Hezron, Droop Lion, Munga Honorebel, Fire Passion, Cen C Love, Ikaya, Yoyo, Macka Diamond, Lady G, CoCo T, General Trees, Triston Palmer, Robert Ffrench, Charley Chaplin, Kulcha Knox, Flourgon, Major Mackerel, I Wayne among many others.
