Dudus will return to a federal court in New York today where drug
and gun-trafficking charges against him will again be mentioned.
Steve Zissou, one of two high-profile attorneys hired to represent the alleged Jamaican drug lord, said that it is likely that a trial
date will be set at today’s hearing.
He said the defence was expecting more evidence from prosecutors at today’s court sitting, but noted that objections over some of the
materials are likely to be raised by defence attorneys.
Coke has been in custody here since June when he was extradited after waiving his rights to an extradition hearing in a Jamaican magistrate’s
court.
He faces up to life in prison on some of the charges if convicted. But in an interview last week, his attorney expressed confidence that
they (defence) “will prevail at trial”.
He also told the Observer that “there is nothing in the evidence presented so far that has any bearing on the allegations against Mr
Coke”.
