Overseas-based dancehall artiste 3 Star is crying foul as he claims members from the Gullyside camp have been trying to stop his music from being played, claiming that an artiste from the camp already has the same name.

According to the artiste, he is the original 3 Star and he has documents of registration to prove his claim. "I have been using the name since 2005, and my first song, No Badman, was released under the name," he said.

The artiste says that he is a full-time musician and he recently finished his degree in music recording at LaGuardia College, therefore, he has no time to squabble with the fake 3 Star who he accuses of trying to destroy his image.

tarnishing character

"I am trying to be an example for the youths and he (the other 3 Star) is making gangster music which confuses the fans who think it's me, it's tarnishing my character," he said, adding that members of the Gullyside have also been sending threats to selectors to stop his music from being played.

"My publicist says that a DJ was playing my song and a group of men threatened him," he told THE STAR.

According to the artiste, he along with his lawyer drafted a letter which he sent to the Gullyside camp and he is yet to get a response. "No man is bigger than the law," he said.

The artiste stands resolute that he won't change his name and has even released a song called Set It, addressing the situation. "I just want the public to know that the other 3 Star that violates music is not me," he said.

THE STAR contacted the Gullyside's 3 Star, born Ricardo Johnson, and he says that he has been using the name for 11 years, but he did not get a chance to register it because the business part of his career was not fully structured.

big stone pon stage

The Gullyside artiste says he was the one who brought the name to prominence. "Any wey him guh in dis worl, and him caan sing my hit song dem, him ago get big stone pon stage because a me di people dem know as 3 Star," he said

The artiste says he has never heard music from the other 3 Star and the music industry is not aware of him. He also rubbished the claims that members of the Gullyside have threatened selectors.

"A lie him a tell sey man rush him. Mi neva hear a song fi him a play nuh wey," he said. The artiste also said that he was not ruling out the prospect of changing his name since the other 3 Star has registered it, but he would have to speak to members of his team first.
