Singer Jah Cure has been axed from this year's MOBO awards nominations after organizers were informed about his rape conviction.

Jah Cure was nominated in this year's Best Reggae Act category, alongside Damian Marley & Nas, Alborosie, Khago and Mavado.

But organizers have ruled he's ineligible for the prize after learning about his conviction and the "severity of the crime", according to Britain's The Sun.

Jah Cure was arrested in 1998 on charges of gun possession, robbery and rape and put behind bars the following year (99) after he was found guilty. He was released in 2007.

Jah Cure who is today travelling to Brazil is unavailable for comment.

This however is not the first controversial MOBO nomination. Reggae acts Vybz Kartel and Elephant Man were both axed in 2004 in a row over homophobic lyrics.
