At a press conference in Montego Bay, St. James Thursday Tourism Minister
Ed Bartlett said the invitation has been made in partnership with
sandals resorts international.
The ministries of tourism and foreign affairs and foreign trade have
offered the 33 Chilean miners, rescue workers and their spouses a
relaxing Jamaican vacation.
They were trapped after part of the mine collapsed on August 5.
The press conference was held to give an update on the island’s readiness for Caribbean Marketplace to be held from January 16 to 18, next year.
The event will be held at the Montego Bay convention center which is still under construction.
Minister Bartlett said his ministry, along with related agencies, will be
working closely with the foreign affairs ministry and sandals resorts to
ensure the miners, rescue workers and their spouses are able to enjoy
what he describes as a stress-free Jamaican vacation.
Thirty-three miners were brought out of the San Jose Mine in Chile on Wednesday after spending 69 days underground.
