Some of the more than 50 people hurt in the Jamaica Urban Transit Company
(JUTC) bus crash in St. Ann Friday night, remain in hospital many with
serious injuries.
Ann Marie Dickens-Palmer, the mother of one of the youngster injured when the JUTC bus went over a cliff near Faith’s Pen said that her
daughter was at Spanish Town Hospital with serious internal injuries.
“She has done an operation that cost us a great sum of money but we had to do it to save her.
She has lost a lot of blood … they had given her units of blood before the operation and she’ll be getting more. They say that her
spleen is damaged, they’ll have to take it out and her spine is also
damaged,” Mrs. Dickens-Palmer said.
Fifty four people were on the JUTC bus when it went over a precipice near Faith’s Pen on the way to a retreat at Moneague College in At. Ann.
More than 50 of them were seriously injured and one – 16 year old Jodian Henry, a student of Bridgeport Comprehensive High School was
killed.
Meanwhile, it has been a difficult two days for Jodian’s family.
Her mother Elita Henry said that it was her daughter’s first trip to the yearly retreat.
“We have this annual retreat and she couldn’t go because she was under age at the time but this year, she reached the age of acceptance. I
didn’t have the money to send her, so one of her aunts at church paid
the fare for her to go,” Mrs. Henry said.
