MONTEGO BAY, St James — Dancehall artiste Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, is expected to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court today to face charges of assault and malicious destruction of property, arising from an alleged incident near Anchovy last month.

A man and his teenaged son were allegedly attacked and assaulted by the deejay and a number of other men over a traffic incident.

Reports are that the complainant parked his car along a section of Belmont road at about 7:00 pm, when the deejay and members of his entourage drove up.

In an effort to avoid potholes in the road, the deejay allegedly asked that the man drive his vehicle further down the road to allow them to pass.

However, after man refused, it is alleged that members of Mavado's entourage emerged from the vehicle and began attacking the man and his son with a machete.

The man allegedly received injuries all over his body, while several of his son's teeth were said to have been knocked out.

A report was made at the Anchovy Police Station and the injured man and his son taken to hospital where they were treated.

Mavado, who was then sought by the police, later gave himself up at the Freeport police station in the company of a lawyer on July 27, five days after the incident is alleged to have taken place.

Meanwhile an accomplice, 35- year-old Gregory Lindo, otherwise known as Fox Road' was also arrested and charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The Montego Bay man was held by members of the Anti- Corruption Branch after he allegedly attempted to hand over a sum of money to a man who had reported an incident of assault against the artiste to the police.

Lindo was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with condition that he report to the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay every Wednesday. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday, September 15.
