A 19-year-old man who broke into the car of popular dub poet and radio personality Mutabaruka was sentenced to nine months-imprisonment yesterday in the Corporate Area R-M court.

The unemployed man of Temple Hall, St Andrew, who was initially remanded for psychiatric evaluation, was found guilty after he was deemed fit to plead by a doctor.

He was found guilty on charges of malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Allegations are that on April 29, Mutabaruka's wife drove the car home that night and left the doors unlocked.

It is alleged that shortly after, she heard strange sounds coming from inside the car and alerted Muta who went to check and saw the man inside the car.

It is further alleged that the man emerged from the vehicle and shoved Mutabaruka in his chest and he fell to the ground. However, Muta managed to lock the man in the car and summoned the police.
