Daughter of reggae icon, Bob Marley and former member of the hit group, Melody Makers, Sharon Marley has been charged with cruelty to a child.
Sharon Marley was questioned by detectives following an alleged incident involving a six-year-old boy at her learning centre.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a Learning Centre, along Lady Musgrave Road, St. Andrew.
It is understood that about two o'clock on Thursday afternoon, Ms. Marley, reportedly confronted the six-year-old boy, whose mother is employed at the institution.
The child, who has special needs, was playing with a toy while awaiting his mother.
It is not clear what transpired; however, it is alleged that following a commotion, Ms. Marley held onto the child and took him inside a room.
Minutes after the child was overheard screaming, and when he emerged from the room, he was crying, and reportedly bore bruises and other marks.
The child who is reportedly autistic had bite marks on the shoulder and hand.
The mother of the child subsequently filed a report with the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
Ms. Marley reportedly surrendered to the police on Friday afternoon and was subsequently charged.
She was offered station bail in the sum of $30,000 and is booked to appear in court on Tuesday.
Attorney-at-law, Christopher Townsend, confirmed that he had been contacted by the parents of the injured child.
He says he could not divulge details on the matter, as investigations are still underway.
