Dancehall artiste Aidonia has now transformed his J.O.P camp into a recording company.

J.O.P, known as Jag One Productions, has released its first rhythm called Fatality and features Aidonia and his protégé Deablo among others.

According to Aidonia's manager Lav Lawrence, the production has been over 10 years in the making.

"J.O.P has been around for 17 years. It started out as a crew with some schoolmates who were interested in music, they deejayed at concerts and so forth. We took the idea from the Scare Dem Crew, so that's how it all started," Lav said.

The manager disclosed that Aidonia's idea to start the label came out of his interest to promote his young artistes.

J.O.P artistes

"He went into production because he wants to push out the young artistes mainly because of the attention that Deablo has been getting. He has a lot of songs with Aidonia but the DJs don't normally play his songs. He did a song on Chimney Record's Money Box Rhythm and it got some play, so Aidonia decided to capitalise on it and produce some rhythms which would give more attention to the J.O.P artistes like Show Crime, Tan Suh, Size 10, Inium and of course Diablo," he said.

Lav expressed that since the release of the Fatality rhythm radio DJs have supported the movement.

"The response has been crazy from the DJs and Deablo has even got requests from overseas for dubplates. The rhythm has a unique sound, it's not hip hop," she said.

Aidonia is said to be now aiming for building his own recording studio. Lav noted that the group does most of its recordings at Ancient recording studio.

"He is looking to start his own recording studio very shortly, but everything goes step by step. He started the t-shirt line recently and owning a record label is just a next step for every artiste in order to take their music to the next level. That is how you will benefit financially through royalties so you will get your production rights and your writer's credit and that is what artistes will live from 20 years down the line," Lav said.

He also revealed that Aidonia is integral in the production process.

"We collaborate with Magnum Production to make the rhythm, but Aidonia plays his part by listening and screening them to see what is best to put out. As you can hear in his songs, Aidonia has a musical ear and he knows which rhythm can be a hit. Sometimes he receives hundreds of rhythms and if he doesn't like them he is not going to record on it," Lav said.

Aidonia's Jag One Productions has so far released one rhythm compilation and one single called Tip Pon Yu Toe. The label is gearing up to release a new rhythm next month called Death March featuring Jahvinci and J.O.P members.
