The ongoing legal drama involving embattled Dancehall superstar, Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer will drag out into the New Year as a second murder trial for the deejay has been put off.
Vybz Kartel, along with Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Calvin ‘Moonie’ Haye, Andre St. John and Kahira Jones were all expected to stand trial Monday in the Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams murder case. However, when the men appeared inside the Home Circuit Court in Kingston this morning, the trial was postponed due to the fact that Kartel’s lawyer, Valerie Neita-Robertson is currently attending a separate murder case, involving three policemen.
Despite the Crown’s willingness to proceed with the trial, the presiding judge ordered that Kartel and his co-accused return to court on January 21 to answer charges in the Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams case. Kartel and the co-accused are all accused of involvement in Williams’ murder last August at a residence in Havendale, St. Andrew. Williams was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by the men following an argument over a missing, illegal gun.
This news comes a week after Kartel’s other murder trial, regarding the killing of Barrington ‘Bossie’ Burton, was put off until December 3 as the prosecution in that matter indicated that they weren’t ready to proceed.
Kartel is accused of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in the Burton case.
Vybz Kartel along with long-time protégé, Vanessa ‘Gaza Slim’ Saddler and studio engineer, Andre ‘Pim Pim’ Henry are scheduled to appear in court on November 12 to begin their conspiracy trial pertaining to the Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams case as they are accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
