Artistes try to keep 'Gaza' alive

When Vybz Kartel formed the Portmore Empire in 2007, he told The STAR that he was trying to develop the talents of a group of artistes in order to propel them to successful careers in the music business.

"Portmore Empire is about a group of artistes coming together for the betterment of music, a musical unit covering artistes, selectors, cassette man, everybody. It's origin is in Portmore, but it nuh limited," Kartel had explained in a 2007 interview with The STAR.

After launching the group, Skin Fi Burn, a song done by Portmore Empire members was released.

Some of the artistes who were a part of the group included Shawn Storm, Lisa Hyper, Ryno, Avalanche, Nuclear, Deva Bratt, Dosa Medicine and Omeil.

However, as news of the disbanding of the Portmore Empire broke earlier this week, the group at that time of disbandment comprised of Popcaan, Gaza Slim, Sheba, Gaza Indu, Shawn Storm, and Tommy Lee.

Now with the Portmore Empire being 'no more', the newly formed Gaza Federation seems intent on keeping the 'gaza' alive.

The group consists of original Portmore Empire members Dosa Medicine and Nuclear, L.A. Lewis and Renegad.

Another original member, Deva Bratt, also endorses the group while spearheading his own Krucial Konflict group.

The Gaza Federation rhythm was recently released which features the above-mentioned artistes.

On Deva Bratt's song, Dats How Di Federation Roll, he surprisingly went as far as to 'big up' Vybz Kartel, with whom he had a much-publicised fallout.

"Mi nuh know wah di government a pree up/ But them have one a the baddest artiste inna the world a GP up/ An everyman is innocent until dem prove him guilty/ Mi parry, mi pawdie, mi chargie, mi one time linky," Deva Bratt deejays in the song.

He goes on to deejay: "Jail house block/ Worl Boss drop a jail dem swear blind seh di bredda nah go bail out back/ Wi hear more track dem hot an dem a chop/ Everytime him go a court fans feel a way bout dat/ Dem a pray bout that, a wonda which day him ago reach a road/ A wonda which day him going drop".

Dosa Medicine and Nuclear also proclaim their connection to the new Gaza Federation group in their songs on the rhythm.
