Claiming that dancers are not being shown respect or given their royalties, dancer-turned-artiste John Bling says he has launched a campaign.
"I am on a campaign fi dem start show the dancers more respect," John Bling told THE STAR.
This comes after the recent release of his song called Smooth An A Move featuring Baby Chris. He said the song title is also the name of a dance move.
Bling, who is no longer part of the Black Blingaz group, said this was not his first song, as he has done songs like Just Dance with Dwayne Rose, To The Bar with Marlon Bling and Mek Yuh Fashion Speak.
He said he decided to do the song promoting his latest dance move so that he will be able to gain from the dance move's eventual success.
"Cause I want to have a voice, dancing is like miming and there is no royalty on your feet. Sometimes, the deejays are the ones who benefit from the work. Mi a protest against it. Dem need fi stop exploit dancers," he told THE STAR.
He also noted that a particular deejay copied a slang he created recently and has used it in a song without giving him any credit.
Bling continued: "I am a dancer for the love of music but that love doesn't pay my bills. Dem fi stop exploit dancers 'cause we know bout copyright too. Dancers from overseas come here and they learn the dances and go back overseas and make money from it. A we mek nuff artistes hot. Di dancers are the heartbeat of the dancehall."
Adamant that more can be done to help dancers, he said dancers can even be added to the line-up for major shows and concert as entertainment between band changes and actually be paid for their efforts.
But with the 'Smooth And A Move' dance move, Bling said he wants to encourage dancing among patrons.
"Mi a try get back the people dem in the dancing groove. It's not a fussy dance, sup'm more relaxing like a one-two-three step," he said, adding that he will be going on a one-month UK tour this weekend.
