Local dancers have united to pay tribute to dancehall icon Gerald Bogle Levy with a song called We Are The Dance

The song was written by John Bling and sees a team of dancers showing their respect in their own unique ways.

According to Keiva, who is a featured dancer in the tribute, Bogle's untimely death left a permanent vacuum in the dancehall.

"We miss Bogle and we know that if he was alive, things would have looked better for the dancing community, so we decided to pay tribute to him. Also, the artistes are not doing dancing songs, so we decided to take it up on our own," she said.

According to Keiva, dancers are not trying to become recording artistes. However, there is a message to be sent, therefore they decided to combine forces to make that statement.

A section of the accompanying music video for We Are The Dance was recently filmed in New York. However, the remaining scenes will be filmed in Jamaica by international video director Jay Will.

"Bogle means everything to the dancers. His spirit was warm. I went on tours with him and those days things were better. Bogle just knows how to light up the party and mek yu waah dance. He also showed that dancing could become a full-time profession because he died when he was forty and he was still dancing," she said.

Ding Dong, Mad Michelle, Sadiki, Boysie, Caigy Dread, John Bling, Queen Latesha, Keiva, Latonya Style, Don Frisco, and '90s Dancehall Queen Carlene contributed to the video, which was produced by Danny Champagne of Champagne Records.

The iconic dancer was murdered in January 2005 at a service station along Constant Spring Road, St Andrew.

In June 2012, veteran dancehall artiste Shakka Pow paid tribute to Bogle and his dancing protégé Ice, who also died violently.

Shakka Pow's tribute involved the release of an all-dance album called Dancing 101 and carried 24 tracks.
