Gyptian’s ‘Hold Yuh’ certified gold

Accomplished Reggae/Dancehall star, Gyptian has made a bit of history thanks to arguably his biggest hit as his 2010 single, Hold Yuh is now certified gold.

On Thursday, it was announced that Hold Yuh was officially declared a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), meaning it has now eclipsed 500,000 copies sold. The song, produced by Ricky Blaze is the first by a Jamaican Dancehall/Reggae artist to be certified gold since Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley’s Grammy-winning single, Welcome to Jamrock achieved such status in 2005.

Hold Yuh gained Gyptian mass international recognition over the last three years; earning him a Music of Black Origin (MOBO) award for Best Reggae Act and a Soul Train award for Best Reggae Artiste in 2010. It also earned him spots on several Billboard charts and topped charts in the Caribbean, North America and Europe.

Sean Paul is the only other Jamaican artist in the last 10 years to be certified gold as his singles, We Be Burning, Temperature, Give It Up To Me (feat. Keyshia Cole) and Break It Off (feat. Rihanna) all top the half-a-million mark in copies sold.
