Konshens delivers intimate performance

Dancehall artiste Konshens on Friday partnered with Pepsi to host a free concert at South Beach café in New Kingston.

According to the artiste, his goal was to deliver a taste of what he gave to his fans on the international scene during his tours.

As early as 11 p.m., the venue was packed to capacity and persons were still lined up at the gate seeking to get in. A sea of females crowded the front of the stage, squeezing against each other, each wanting to be in at least arms reach of the entertainer.

Sub Konshus artiste Darrio opened the show, singing a few popular songs from his budding catalogue. His energy and stage presence kept the audience occupied until Konshens was ready to perform at 11:42 p.m.

Welcomed by screaming females, Konshens stood motionless on the stage, with his head down before saying a word, appearing to be soaking up the love from his music-hungry fans. Some took the opportunity to snap pictures of the artiste, while others, who apparently had other motives, made unsuccessful attempts to remove his shirt.

Konshens started his performance by singing his first hit record, Winner. The song, which was released in 2008, had patrons singing along. He then went on to Pretty On the Outside, which further transformed the audience into his back-up choir.

Konshens also paid homage to Tarrus Riley, who he referred to as his brother, before singing their collaborative single, Good Girl Gone Bad.

Deceased recording artistes Oneil from Voicemail, Coppa Cat, and Joe were also remembered as Konshens denounced the murder of the artistes and dedicated his song Buss A Blank in celebration of their lives.

Trade and marketing manager at Pepsi, Catherine Goodall, told THE STAR that collaborating with Konshens was a good avenue to give back to facebook fans.

"The turnout is more than good. It was based on invitation, and we got support. Konshens wanted to give back to his fans, and we thought it was a good way to give back to our fans as well, especially those on our facebook page. Music is our platform, and so we have a lot of events coming for the rest of the year, and we are already looking forward to Sumfest this summer," she said.

Konshens was later joined by reggae-dancehall artiste Raine Seville. Together, they performed their controversial single, Sekkle Down Body.

Dressed in knee-high socks, heels, shorts, and a painted t-shirt, Raine was definitely a sight for the male patrons, who finally had something to shout about. What followed next was a sexually suggestive performance of the song that left several female fans staring jealously.

Konshens then told them he knew they were jealous and sought to win back their hearts. He did so successfully by performing his song I'm Coming.

Other artistes who supported Konshens by performing for free were Romain Virgo, G-Whizz, and Flippa.

The event was brought to an end with a collaborative performance by Konshens and his brother Delus.

"Big up mi brother! If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be a recording artiste. Perhaps I would have become a footballer or a teacher. And special thanks to the fans. You have supported me since 2008," Konshens concluded.
