Fast-rising reggae artiste Chronixx is celebrating yet another milestone in his career after collaborating with Major Lazer for his Start A Fire mixtape.

Major Lazer opted to work with the reggae act after hearing his music in a bus, and now the mixtape has over 125,000 hits on their sound cloud website.

Chronixx's manager, Brendon 'Barnz' Sharpe, explains how the collaboration came about.

"Walshy Fire of Major Lazer was in Jamaica shooting the Get Free video and J Will and Ezra were playing Chronixx's music in the bus and he heard the music and said he liked it. He asked who was the artiste and he was told that he is a young reggae artiste, and he said he wanted to meet him. After that he came to Jamaica and met Chronixx, myself and Zion. He told us that he liked the music because it was reggae, but had a different element to it," he said.

Following their discussion about Chronixx and his music, both parties decided to collaborate for the Start A Fire mixtape.

"They asked us to do a mixtape with them. So Zinc Fence and Major Lazer linked up and produced the mixtape, the last track on the mixtape was a freestyle and it was produced by Major Lazer," he said.

The manager says working with an international acclaimed producer like Major Lazer is a positive look. The Odd Ras singer also performed at the recently concluded Major Lazer concert put on by the UWI Guild of Students.

"It's very positive because Major Lazer's marketing and their audiences are completely different from ours, so it was a great opportunity for us," Sharpe said.

Chronixx is currently working on a new EP to be released in April. His manager says the Zinc Fence team is more focused on EPs than compilations.

"We are trying to avoid doing a lot of rhythm compilations because our focus is on EPs and singles. The advantage of doing an EP is that it gives you the opportunity to promote each individual song. So you present at least seven tracks at once to the public," he said.

Chronixx is currently basking in the local popularity of uptempo songs like Behind Curtain and Odd Ras. However, unlike some reggae artistes who have switched to dancehall music because of the hype associated with it, Barnz says Chronixx won't sell out.

"Chronixx won't get caught up with the hype. His focus is not about the rhythm but more about the lyrical content. His new EP will have about three dancehall songs and four reggae songs. Chronixx will not fly with a hit song, he will fly with a catalogue," the manager said.
