MARKUS Myrie, son of dancehall great Buju Banton, recently released the Bar Bounce rhythm on his Markus Records.
Myrie, who had a prolific 2012, is confident this latest project will maintain his momentum.
Songs by Ninja Kid, Elephant Man, Khago, Mavado, and Flexx are on the Bar Bounce. Also, a collaboration with Beenie Man and Future Fambo titled Let’s Make a Toast.
Myrie, who is also a deejay, contributes Bar Haffi Sell featuring Blak Ryno.
The 19-year-old has been working with a number of upcoming acts in recent months, signing Bryka and D’East and recording songs by Versatile and K.I.
Myrie says a high point for him last year was the track Bad Mind Dem a Pree by I Octane and Bounty Killer. Based on its success, a number of artistes have approached him to work with Markus Records.
The 5th Gear and Beating Stick rhythms were other 2012 projects by the label.
Marcia back on Billboard
VETERAN singer Marcia Griffiths returns to the Billboard charts with Marcia Griffiths and Friends, which is number 20 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart.
In late 2012, the set peaked at number 14 on this list. It contains 38 duets and is released by VP Records.
Marcia Griffiths and Friends has guest appearances by Tanya Stephens, Tony Rebel, Da’Ville, Third World lead singer Bunny Rugs, Duane Stephenson, Esco Levi, Sanchez, Cutty Ranks, Assassin, Busy Signal, John Holt, Bob Andy, Buju Banton and, Beres Hammond.
Prior to ‘Friends’, Griffiths was last on Billboard in 1991 when her album Carousel peaked at number 26 on the Heatseekers Chart. Two years earlier, her disco hit Electric Boogie reached number 36 on the dance chart; number 78 on the R&B Hip Hop Songs chart; and number 51 on the Hot 100 chart.
Khalilah Rose stands for unity and strength
REGGAE singer Khalilah Rose is one to keep an eye on in 2013. She is stepping up promotion for her mix tape, Unite and Be Strong.
It is a joint effort with singjay Turbulence, with whom she recorded the title track last year. Unite and Be Strong was produced by DJ Kenroy of HOT 102 FM and has 15 songs.
“I have a lot of projects to be completed this year. I’m presently working on a number of songs with Ed Robinson and I’m also going to shoot a video with Turbulence for our single,” she said.
The Portland-born, New York-reared artiste, who released her debut album Zion’s Lullaby last year, is also eyeing spots on some of the major European festivals.
