Reggae artiste Damian Marley is gearing up to release his first musical project in the capacity of producer. The son of late reggae legend Bob Marley is revealed to have been the mastermind behind the production of Wayne Marshall's soon to be released studio album True Colours.
According to Marshall, even the very title of the album was envisioned by Damian Marley.
"From the beginning of my career I have always used the slang 'tru tru tru' so Damian suggested that I call the album True Colours and came up with the concept. This album is really a showcase of my true colours as an artiste. So I decided to work with that title," Marshall said.
According to Marshall, the intention is to push the project internationally and the label charged with that responsibility is Ghetto Youths International, which is a label operated by Damian and Stephen Marley.
"It is my first time doing an album with them and it is amazing. They are talented masters of their art, they put in the effort and they have a tremendous work ethic. I have learnt a lot from them and it is a great experience," he continued.
"Junior Gong now has his own studio, and this is his first project out of that studio. So it's amazing being a part of the movement from day one," Wayne Marshall said.
True Colours will carry 14 tracks and will feature Jamaican artistes like Sean Paul, Bounty Killer, I-Octane, Vybz Kartel, Assassin and of course Damian Marley.
Marshall explained that this latest effort shows his musical growth.
"This album shows experience and musical growth. I am a tougher artiste musically, and as a person, I am getting better at my craft and I am learning. I guess the music will speak for itself. People will see the experience and the growth and will grow with us," Marshall said.
Other producers who have contributed to the project include Baby G and Wash Room Entertainment. But will the Marley touch give the album that coveted Grammy boost? Marshall said it's a possibility.
"I believe what they touch turns to gold and we are confident in the project; we believe it's of the standard of the Grammys and other prestigious awards. We are just hoping that the vibe we feel will transcend to the people," Marshall said.
Wayne Marshall's last album Marshall In Town, was released in 2005. The artiste currently holds the number one slot on several local charts with his collaborative single Go Hard also featuring Damian Marley and other local acts.
