Mr. Vegas is today mourning the loss of his mother, affectionately referred to as Mama Lucille.

Music News understands that Vegas’ mom developed Pneumonia and was hospitalized in critical condition at the University Hospital of the West Indies after suffering a stroke.

Mamma Lucille who would have been 83 later this month, died last night (01.09.14).

A rep for Mr. Vegas tells Music News that the dancehall deejay has been hit hard by this sudden tragedy and has decided to focus on family.

Late last night Mr Vegas posted to fans on his Facebook Page “I ask that you continue to pray for my family and I as we mourn our beloved mother. I also thank you in advance for privacy during this very difficult time. R.I.P. Mama Lucille. Love you forever!!”

An overwhelming show of support has already started over social media sites, specifically Twitter and Facebook, as fans express their condolences.
