In recent times, many players in the music industry argued that dancehall music was on its death bed. However, with the success of the One Day rhythm produced by Seanizzle records in 2010, the music industry began to recover from what could be seen as a dancehall depression.

The STAR spoke with dancehall producer Seanizzle, and he expressed that the genre is looking promising.

"I am now hearing more real dancehall and I am proud that I had something to do with that, even in cases where producers fuse it with other elements you can still hear the real dancehall," he said.

According to Seanizzle, dancehall was not dead; however, producers were not standing out.

"I think what happened was just that one man got a hit and run Jamaica and others followed, so instead of being unique it became monotonous. Nothing is wrong with fusing music, but we have to try to maintain the authentic vibes," he said.

Seanizzle also feels that producers and artistes should work with everybody, as long as talent exists, he also believes that dancehall is making an international return.

"I see dancehall going places again, right now there are a lot of international remixes; yu have Busta Rhymes with Rum and Red Bull, Popcaan's Only Man She Want.

Jim Jones also has a dancehall remix and these collaborations are all taking place without the backing of a major record label, so that shows that the international audience is listening to our music, dancehall is not dead," he said.

Pay Day of Payday Music also shared his views on the current state of dancehall.

According to the producer, lack of unity is dancehall's biggest weakness.

"We need some unity, everybody has to push their own weight, but if we come together and contribute to the music in a combined effort it will be better," he continued.

"Unity is valuable to the development of dancehall, dancehall is too divided and I will do my part to push for unity," he said.

New producer Elvis Redwood who peaked with the Lost Angel rhythm, believes dancehall was becoming too hip hop. Redwood sees more authentic dancehall productions being the ultimate route to a total recovery.

"Sometimes you don't know if the music is dancehall or hip hop, the real authentic thing a leave. But it can get better if we go back to the real authentic dancehall rhythms," he said.

Seanizzle is currently working with young artistes Cubanis and I-Queen, the first lady of Seanizzle records.

"Somebody gave me an opportunity so I am just returning the favour and it's all about the love for the music and keeping it fresh," he said.
