The Grammy-winning deejay Shabba Ranks exceeded expectations delivering an excellent high-energy performance on Reggae Sumfest International 1 on Friday.
The veteran entertainer had the massive eating out of his hands during his hour-long set. He could do no wrong as he delivered hits like Trailer Load, Love Punaany Bad, Heart of a Lion and Ting a Ling among others reminding fans why he is regarded as the emperor of dancehall’s.
Shabba was later joined on stage by Cherine Anderson who did extremely well as the two performed songs like Champion Lover and Twice My Age.
Subsequent his performance, Shabba was honoured for his contribution to reggae and dancehall music by Summerfest Organizers. Also honoured on International Night 1 was IRIE FM’s Elise Kelly for her 19 years with the festival.
Tarrus Riley was also a hit.
R&b singer Trey Songz had the ladies grooving. He had fans singing along as he performed songs such as Love Faces, Dive In and Bottoms Up.
The 'Jamaica 50' segment saw entertaining 10-minute sets from veterans such Derrick Harriott, U-Roy, Leroy Sibbles, Leroy Smart, John Holt, the Mighty Diamonds, Pinchers and Yellow Man.
International night 1 also featured fireworks to mark the festival’s 20th year.
