Court documents show that Toots Hibbert of the legendary reggae band Toots and the Maytals has filed a $20 million lawsuit against Venture Richmond and Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers Inc. over injuries that occurred when he was hit with a vodka bottle during performance in Richmond.
The lawsuit further states that the Richmond performance was part of a nationwide tour and the cancellation of other shows, due to the incident, have cost Toots significant income.
The claim also reveals that Toots Hibbert’s injuries left him unable to record compose compositions or make public appearances.
Meanwhile, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Venture Richmond objected on Monday to the allegation of negligence, saying the teen charged is totally responsible.
Toots was struck in the head with a vodka bottle during a stage performance in May. After suffering a deep head cut, the veteran entertainer received several stitches.
Toots Hibbert has also filed a lawsuit against the 19 year old accused of throwing the vodka bottle.
