Vybz Kartel case to be rescheduled

Controversial dancehall entertainer, Vybz Kartel, did not appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today as expected.

Kartel should have appeared on the charges of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm.

But when his lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson turned up, he was told the case would not get underway today.

Director of communications at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Karl Angell, said Kartel was not taken to court because the case was not listed on the court docket.

He said it is expected to be listed later this week.

Major Investigation Taskforce investigators yesterday interrogated Kartel, who was then charged.

The dancehall entertainer, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, is accused of conspiring with other men to kill 27-year-old businessman Barrington Burton otherwise called ‘Bossie’.

The police said Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park, St. Catherine.

Kartel has been in police custody since Friday after being arrested and charged with illegal possession of ganja.

Following his arrest, a joint police-military team conducted an operation, during which several houses owned and frequented by the artiste were searched.

The search followed the discovery of a partially burnt and decomposing body at one of Kartel’s St. Andrew premises.
