Ziggy Marley yesterday won in the category of Best Reggae Album for his effort, Ziggy Marley In Concert (Tuff Gong Worldwide label) at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
An AP report listed Marley among the early winners, Cyndi Lauper making the announcements during the pre-telecast ceremony.
Marley, who is the eldest son of Reggae legend Bob Marley, and who has been presented with the award four times already, three times as the leader of his eponymous band, told The STAR, "We give thanks, it is an honour and a blessing. Much respect to the Recording Academy and the fans."
Next on the agenda, Marley said he was now "looking forward to the release of my new record, Fly Rasta".
Among the contenders ousted for the top spot were: Beres Hammond for his One Love, One Life (VP Records), Sizzla's The Messiah (VP Records), Sly & Robbie and The Jam Masters with Reggae Connection (K'z Records), and Snoop Lion's Reincarnated (RCA Records/Berhane Sound System/Boss Lady Ent/Vice/Mad Decent).
Hosted for a third straight time by LL Cool J, the prestigious Grammy Awards show was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, and saw artistes/entertainers being honoured in approximately 70 categories.
