ZAMUNDA is unique. He stutters like crazy in normal conversation but his speech impediment is nowhere evident in his releases, including a collaboration with I-Octane called 'Badda Than Dem'.
A rising star in dancehall circles, Zamunda has been quietly building his stocks, travelling to England twice this year, the second time on special request after ripping his tour dates. "The first time I went to England, me, Octane, Chan Dizzy and T'Nez, was in May. We guh London, Birmingham and Manchester," he said. "London sell off, Birmingham and Manchester sell off. The people requested Zamunda again, so me and Chan Dizzy went back to do three shows in July - London, Birmingham and Liverpool," he added.
The singjay has two new songs One People and Call on Jah, plus a song about the girls liking his stutter. "I am getting proper, proper, proper feedback from the new releases," he pointed out, adding, "mi mash up Sumfest, proper, proper, proper".
The 25-year-old, who attended Claremont All-Age in St Ann, has been signed to Extreme Productions for the last three months.
He described himself as being "from a musical background with my mother and sisters singing on the choir at church, so I grew up in a musical atmosphere". "I used to be a mechanic but said that wasn't my thing. I found myself under a little ackee tree in the garage, building lyrics. People came to the garage and said, 'How yu seh yu a artiste and yu stamma', when I bus a piece gi dem, dem seh yu a artiste, yu shouldn't deh ya so."
Although the musical vibes with Zamunda and I-Octane hit a snag, he said he's cool with his fellow artiste. "In everything, nothing lasts forever. It's not like me an Octane have any confrontation. It's just things occurring around us, carry-guh-bring come and little vibes. Me and Octane have a good relationship musically," he said.
"I've got two new videos, One People, shot and voiced in Trinidad. All the production was done in Trinidad. The next track, Call on Jah, the video for that has also been released," he pointed out.
