The late Dennis Emmanuel Brown was born this day in the year 1957. He was one of the pioneers in the lover’s rock style of reggae and with 78 albums to his name, was one of the most prolific names in the business.

Honoured with the title "crown prince of reggae" by the great Bob Marley, D Brown was regarded by many as one of reggae's greatest singers.

In commemoration of his birth, a special wreath laying ceremony was held earlier today at the National Heroes’ Park where Dennis Brown was buried on July 17, 1999.

Meanwhile, a concert planned for Dennis Brown organized by his friend Leggo was stifled due to lack of support from the Jamaican government according to organizers. This resulted in the postponement of the event which was slated to take place at the Waterfront in Down Town Kingston on Sunday, February 3.

However, the controversy deepens as Minister in the Ministry of Tourism And Entertainment Damaion Crawford claims they’re yet to receive a proposal or requisition for sponsorship from the Dennis Brown Foundation or any other individual. Crawford also states that JARIA was given 4 million dollars for Reggae Month activities.
