Men try to rob Big Wayne - Artiste, however, denies being shot at

Dancehall enigma Dave 'Big Wayne' Channer recently escaped a robbery attempt at Dumbarton Avenue in Kingston, and dispels allegations that he was fired on.

The slang artiste told The WEEKEND STAR that he was on his way to the recording studio when he was approached by a man who demanded money.

"I was in a taxi and just as mi come out and a pay the driver, a bredda come there and a sey him a beg mi a money fi buy a juice, and mi sey mi nuh have it and him sey next time mi see him ... mi ago see him gun, so an argument developed between me and him," Big Wayne said.

According to Big Wayne, the argument led to a physical altercation with the man, and at this point the man's cronies decided to join the tussle.

"During the altercation, some of his friends joined like sey dem plan fi gang mi. At this point a licensed firearm holder who was near fired a few shots fi scare dem off, and dem guh wey then mi guh to the Half-Way Tree Police Station to report it," he said.

Big Wayne expressed that he is now on a positive path and he will not entertain any form of negativity from people seeking to extort him.

"I don't want no negative things surround me right now, right now mi nuh want nuh youth see mi a road and feel like mi have money and waah extort mi. How mi fi give yuh wey mi nuh have? I just want everybody fi hold up dem head because everybody can have something," he said.

Big Wayne disclosed that persons close to the area where the incident took place began to send BlackBerry broadcasts saying that he was fired on by gunmen, and he wants to clear the air, as that was not the case.

"People just start send message pon BlackBerry to other people a sey a me dem shoot after, but nothing nuh guh suh," he continued.

"Mi nuh waah nuh crab inna barrel come draw mi back dung, mi career deh pon a high and it's all about music and mi slang dem," he said.

Big Wayne currently works with producer/DJ Supa Hype and has released collaborations such as Tun Up Load on the Juicy rhythm and a single called Bend Yuh Knee Gyal.
