Popcaan records with Snoop Dogg - Deejay to select one of three tracks for new album

Popcaan has been enjoying his stint in the front seat of dancehall music in recent months with several popular songs dominating the airwaves and earning 'pull ups' at events.

With upcoming shows in Suriname, Guyana, Bahamas, Europe and Guadeloupe among other local events, the young artiste who found his musical form under the wings of Vybz Kartel is now widening his stride, stepping out into the international dancehall market.

Hot off the heels of Popcaan's Only Man She Want remix with Busta Rhymes, he now has a soon-to-be finished song with American rapper Snoop Dogg which is to be featured on his new album.

The song was recorded during Snoop Dogg's recent visit to Jamaica.

He credits the collaboration to Carleene Samuels, a member of his management team, who was instrumental in securing studio time with the 'Doggystyle' rapper.

"Carleene Samuels (my management team) is good friends with the executive producer of the Snoop Dogg project so she approached them like two months ago. She made the link already so when they reach we went to the studio and just listen to nuff different tracks," Popcaan told The WEEKEND STAR.

He continued, "We meet and hol' a vibe and write few songs and then we lay down about three tracks, so the album production team will have some different vibes to work with, so we don't know which one will be final. So it's not like we have a song together already."

Popcaan enjoyed working with the American rapper and described their lyme as a cool, good experience saying, "Snoop was cool, and we chat and vibe. I introduced him to apple vodka and ting and he liked it so we just hol a vibe all night, was a ravin drink up link."

Popcaan, who contributes his current success in music to "hard work," says he plans to remain focused and not allow his success to get the better of him. He explained that although he admires several musicians he just plans to work with, "the ones that vibe with us."

When asked if there are any other international acts he would like to work with in the future he replied, "That's not something we really think about. We like nuff international acts and even dancehall artistes are international acts too 'cause our music play worldwide. We will just work with the ones that vibe with us and the ones that we like their music. But right now I'm looking forward to working with Jr Gong."

While in Jamaica, Snoop Dogg also worked with other local acts, among them, upcoming artiste Cutty Corn on a song he calls The Anthem.

"Is a song that I had long time but never release it yet. Him (Snoop Dogg) just hear it and like it suh I record my part and him a guh finish it up," said Cutty Corn.

He was also happy that he got the chance to work with the US rapper, describing the experience as a once in a lifetime opportunity.
