Like Sizzla Kalonji, Lutan Fyah, Fantan Mojah and several other reggae artistes, Romain Virgo has decided to dabble in dancehall.
The singer has released a song produced by JA productions called Scary Movie on the Afterlife rhythm, and tells The STAR that he is coming out of his element for 2013.
"We always do a one dancehall song from time to time. I am young and young people go for dancehall, so I have to sing something for them. This song is positive and it's about people who feel like dem badda dan God and so far people love it," Virgo said.
The artiste revealed that he recorded other dancehall songs in the past but did not release them; however, this rhythm was different.
"We just do good music. I never try to make a hit yet, we just do music and follow vibe. I pride myself in doing positive music and will keep it that way. People are not going to hear a negative song from Romain Virgo. This rhythm sounded aggressive and different, so I decided to talk about people who believe they are badda than God. I am coming out of my element and the majority of the people love it," he said.
out of his comfort zone
Romain Virgo says this is not the first time that he has moved out of his comfort zone, as he released a soca song in the past which was relatively successful in the Caribbean.
His manager, Shane Brown, also commented on Virgo's new path stating, "Music has no limits; he (Virgo) is a reggae artiste and a young person who also loves dancehall, so it is a matter of expressing himself. It is not like he is going to be on every dancehall rhythm, for the year he probably does two dancehall songs. Here at Juke Boxx, he experiments on dancehall rhythms but they just haven't been released, it was just a vibe and when the vibes hold you, yuh just have to let it go," Brown said.
Virgo is putting final work into his upcoming mixtape called Go Hard 2013. The CD will be mixed by radio DJ Wayne. Virgo is also looking forward to his upcoming tour of Africa, while Shane Brown is still picking up the pieces following his surprise fallout with dancehall artiste and friend Busy Signal.
