Just days after releasing his latest album, Love Situation, which debuted at number one on iTunes, Tarrus Riley once again found himself atop another chart - the Billboard Reggae Album chart.

According to Riley, it feels great to be in the number one position, especially because he did it without the support of a record company.

"This album was released by Juke Boxx/Cannon Productions and distributed by Zojak. A next special thing is that it is authentic rock steady music, so it's promoting our Jamaican culture in its organic form. This is not just about me and my team, but for the entire reggae music industry because it shows that the music is alive and still being supported worldwide," he said.

Though more reggae artistes are gravitating towards releasing albums, currently, only three other Jamaicans are on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart, namely Papa San, Ziggy Marley and Bob Marley and The Wailers.

Last November, Gyptian's Sex, Love and Reggae album also debuted in the number one spot (Billboard Reggae Album Chart) while Wayne Marshall's Tru Colors debuted at number four in January of this year.

Riley told The STAR that there are several reasons why some Jamaican artistes are not making strides internationally.

"One of them is a lot of artistes don't get the opportunity to be heard and a lot are not working with an organised team. A lot of artistes don't have the opportunity to tour and take the product to the consumer, and those who actually tour, don't fully understand that touring is about promotion. So it's not like we Jamaicans lack talent, but it's about what we do with the talent," he said.

With Bob Marley and The Wailers accounting for two spots in the Top 10 on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart, Riley added that brand Marley is still implanted in our culture.

"Bob Marley is still dominant because his brand (his music, his lifestyle, his message) has been implanted in our culture and the world. That came from his hard work and dedication over the years. They can't take back the work that Bob Marley has done, which is creating one of the biggest platforms for reggae artistes like myself to emerge," he said.
