Tenth Grammy win for Stephen Marley

Amid the gloom of mourning the death of Whitney Houston, Stephen Marley stood tall, winning his 10th Grammy for the album 'Revelation Pt 1: The Root of Life'.

Marley's victory, while another feather in the cap for Jamaican music, came while Jamaicans, and those at Harlem's Apollo Theater tried to make sense of the death of one of music's greatest achievers.

This is the 10th time the Marley is holding on to the Grammy, also winning five times as part of Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers and twice with his brother Junior Gong. He stood on the podium as a solo artiste in 2007 and 2009 for Mind Control and Mind Control Acoustic, respectively.

Contacted last night, Stephen said he was elated to have won his 10th Grammy. He said the win is very special for him because he was chosen from a group of great reggae acts including his older brother Ziggy, and to come away with a win shows that he is growing from strength to strength. "We grateful for that (the win). We give thanks and a just so it go," he said. So happy is the reggae superstar that a celebration party is being held tonight. Stephen thanked his fans who have continued to support him and his music. "I want to tell my fans that I appreciate what they are doing for me," he said. They are my strength and inspiration and I have a special love for all of them." Marley got the better of Monty Alexander (Harlem-Kingston Express Live!), Israel Vibration (Reggae Knights), Ziggy Marley (Wild and Free), and Shaggy (Summer In Kingston).
