DANCEHALL star Beenie Man is featured on rap sensation Nicki Minaj's forthcoming album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
The two collaborate on the track Gunshot which was recorded in Jamaica at Gussie Clarke's Anchor Recording studio.
According to Beenie Man, Minaj was not in Kingston to record her part of the track but said she was very much involved in the recording process.
"I was supposed to have gone to LA (Los Angeles) to record the track. She sent her vocals with two of her representatives from her record label and we went to Anchor and I did my verse," the deejay told the Observer. "She was on the phone basically telling us what she wanted."
Gunshot is among 19 tracks on the standard edition of Minaj's album which is due for release in the United States on April 3.
Beenie Man describes the song as a club banger.
"This song can run the Caribbean and the world. It's basically dancehall meets hip hop in 1980's style," he said.
Beenie Man first met the Trinidad-born Minaj at the 2011 Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay and says they have kept in touch.
Minaj has been riding high since she shot onto the musical radar in 2007. Her debut album, Pink Friday released in November, 2010, has sold two million copies in the US on the strength of hit the singles Right Thru Me, Your Love, Did It On Em, Fly and Super Bass.
In 2009, she had a minor hit in the US with Hold You alongside Jamaican singer Gyptian.
Rhythm and Blues singers Chris Brown and Bobby V (formerly Bobby Valentino), and rappers Nas, Drake, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Cam'ron and Lil Wayne are featured on Roman Reloaded.
The first single Starships is number two in the United Kingdom.
Beenie Man has recorded songs with American female recording artistes including Mya (Girls Dem Sugar), Janet Jackson (Feel it Boy), Angie Martinez and Lil Kim.
The most successful of those collaborations has been Feel it Boy which peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2002.
Beenie Man was previously signed to the major label Virgin Records.
