Buju's name used to defraud showgoers

Mark Myrie more popularly known as Buju Banton is serving a 10-year prison sentence in the United States but that has not stopped some persons from using the entertainers name to their own advantage.

Reports coming from the Buju Banton Defence Support Committee and the artiste's lawyer, Charles Ogletree, state that a certain individual in Trinidad has been approaching promoters claiming to be the local agent for the incarcerated artiste.

The Defence Support Committee recently issued a statement saying the individual is also collecting money with the promise of a concert to be staged in Trinidad later this year. They further wished to warn the public that no such concert exists and stated that no rights had been given to anyone in Trinidad to collect money on the artiste's behalf.

The support committee has stated that it will be taking legal action against the individual once they have been caught, and urged the public to inform the authorities if they are approached by anyone making such claims.

According to the Bureau of Prisons' website, Banton is not expected to be released from prison until 2019.
