LA Lewis to auction his underpants at art show

Dancehall and Graffiti artiste LA Lewis has decided to try his hand at conceptual art. According to the popular dancehall personality, the LA Lewis brand has gone commercial and his aim is to exploit new ventures.

"Over the years I have noticed that everything I do always sell off. I notice that when I go in a place it always erupt and people always ask me for LA Lewis T-shirts mostly women, so that is the power of the LA Lewis brand, so I am doing new things with it," he said.

Signature

According LA Lewis, a popular businessman from China Town in the US, came to Jamaica and offered him US$500 (J$44,000) for his signature.

"The business man from Deadly Dragon in the United States gave me a piece of board and paid me to sign my signature on it because he wanted to put it up in his record store. I then searched the net and looked up what Conceptual Art was and when I saw some of the exhibits I knew that I could do better because I have been doing this for years," Lewis said.

LA Lewis has since signed his signature on his washing brush, a pair of underpants, his face basin and his bleach bottle. According to the artiste, these items represent his touch of art and they will be going up for auction.

"I was approached by some people from the UK who have a big art show in September in Nottingham and they requested that I be a part of the show. At the show I will auction my art and my music too," he said.

"Everything I touch is worth real money, it is only in Jamaica this is not recognised. Even Kanye West auction his shoes recently ... I have no problem flying so I will definitely be at the exhibition," Lewis said.

As it relates to his music, the deejay says he has not retired from dancehall music.

"I still continue to deejay, I have the Gaza Federation right now with Nuclear, it has a lot of support and I am the new boss of the Gaza. This year is LA Lewis year," he said.

The LA Lewis-signed underpants will be auctioned for £70,000, the Face Basin which LA Lewis carved from stone will be auctioned for £170,000, the washing brush for £7,000 and the bleach bottle for £7,000.
